SALVE MATER is a disused sanatorium located in Lovenjoel, near Leuven in Belgium. The published Belgium photographer Pascal Baetens has the use of one of the building complexes, which was formerly the administration building, complete with church, mortuary, kitchens and an abundance of different rooms including large attics and cellars. I have been fortunate to be a member of several small groups that have visited Pascal at his studio several times.
The building is in great condition and has the advantage of lots of natural light in different parts of the building throughout the day. I found the venue and subject so intriguing that I based the
panel of pictures that I used to gain my ARPS (Associate of The Royal Photographic Society) on this subject and location. All of these pictures have been taken using only natural light and I hope you enjoy this small selection.
My thanks go to Pascal for his continued support in providing the venue and special thanks go to all the models that have worked with me here.
Besides his normal work as a commercial photographer Pascal runs fine art nude workshops in this and many other locations. He has also produced several books and videos, all of which can be viewed on his website.
